Around this time of year, Albright students get so consumed and overwhelmed with work that what they're wearing is the last of their worries. After scouring the Campus Center for a few minutes, I spotted this Fashionista talking with a couple of friends. Her bold scarf and chunky accessories helped her stand out from the crowd (not to mention her suede wedges). Between finals and the shift in weather, making conscious fashion decisions doesn't seem to be top priority. However, this Fashionista was able to find time to put on the finishing touches before walking out the door. Even before taking her photo she suddenly stopped and remembered to add her accessories so she had a complete look for all to see.
Name: Lon’Jae Williams
Major: Fashion Merchandising and Public Relations/Advertising
Year: Sophomore
CollegeFashionista: Who is your style icon?
Lon’Jae Williams: Solange a.k.a. Solo because she branched away from being known as Beyoncé's younger sister by making statements with her wardrobe. I love how she wears bold prints and the different ways she styles her hair.
CF: What is your favorite season to get dressed for?
LW: My favorite season to get dress for is the fall because I love to layer!
CF: Where do you like to shop for clothes?
LW: Forever 21+, H&M, Marshall's and T.J. Maxx.
CF: Where do you gain inspiration for your outfits?
LW: It's hard to name one thing that I get inspired by. Sometimes it's a makeup idea or maybe a movie. I get inspired by almost anything.
CF: If you could go back in time, which time period would you visit?
LW: If I could go back in time I would have to pick either the late 1950s because of the dropped waist dresses and gloves they wore, or the 1980s when the hip hop culture started making an impact on urban environments.
CF: What TV show or movie do you think has the best fashion/costumes?
LW: Dreamgirls! I think Dreamgirls is fabulous because of the sequins, metallic and beading used for all the costumes during the disco era. Also, the prints used for costumes during the funk era of the movie.
CF: What advice would you give to other Fashionistas/os?
LW: The biggest advice I would give is to wear what makes you happy and not what you think others want to see you in because fashion and style is more than the clothes you wear, it’s how you wear the clothes!
How To: To recreate Lon’Jae’s look, begin with bold shoes and accessories. These wedges from Forever 21 are perfect for obtaining simplicity in the outfit, while this scarf adds the little spice it needs. Also try these jeans from Forever 21+.
