FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Ivy Okojie

Uncategorized

This funky Fashionista is a walking smorgasbord of different trends. She is a total show stopper as she combines girly with grunge, mixing each piece effortlessly.  One of the most notable parts of her outfit would have to be the super trendy floral peplum top shes wearing from H&M. Peplum tops, dresses and skirts have been a rising trend that started it's popularity with Spring 2012 RTW and was shown in various runway collections such as Vera Wang, Givenchy, and Cynthia Rowley; and the peplum trend continues it's popularity right into Resort 2013 with collections by Oscar de la Renta and Prabal Gurung

This Fashionista knows how to keep her overall outfit stylish as she wears yellow sunnies that bring out the yellow-green flowers in her peplum top, and then throws on a distressed denim vest over everything thus transitioning the look from chic and girly, into something a little more grungy and edgy. Her sky-high platforms also add that extra oomph needed to make this Fashionista look feminine and feirce.

Name: Ivy Okojie

Campus: Humber College

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: What inspired your outfit today?

Ivy Okojie: I wanted to look summery, so the season inspired me mostly. I also like to mix edgy pieces into whatever outfit I am wearing.

CF: What are 3 wardrobe staples that you cant live without?

IO: Dr. Martens, black mini-skirt, and a statement necklace.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

IO: I find myself to be very versatile with my fashion choices as one day I can be channeling a 50’s pin-up model, and the next I can be completely grunge. It really all depends on my mood for the day.

How To: Luckily for those trying to find the perfect peplum, whether it be a top, skirt, or dress; runway focused stores such as H&M, Zara, and Top Shop have everything you need. A peplum can be worn in so many versatile ways: for example, you can wear a peplum top as you would normally wear a basic t-shirt, and there are so many different items of clothing that can be paired with a basic t-shirt, the difference is that your outfit will definitely have more of a feminine appeal. This is something to keep in mind whenever wearing any garment with a peplum, unless the clothing is leather, you are going to look instantly look more feminine. To balance out this ultra feminine look, you can wear an edgier peplum like this H&M one seen in Nylon's past March 2012 issue, or you can throw over a distressed denim vest, or wear anything with spikes for a little juxtaposition.
