FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Sarah Walters

Uncategorized

This Fashionista's campus style hit the jackpot with style and sheer simplicity. Her vintage print floral pants, paired up with a basic white T-shirt and knitwear, looked effortlessly chic. I must say women's fashion is something amazing and challenging, being confronted with practicality, style, affordability, trends, colours and the list goes on. Despite all of these, Sarah styles on strong and shares with us a few tips with regards to these areas. I must agree that fashion has a price to pay, and Sarah agrees indefinitely, with a never ending passion for fashion. What I call a true blue Fashionista.

Name: Sarah Walters

Major: Communications (Public Relations)

Year: 2nd

CollegeFashionista: I see that you are wearing a vintage floral print pants, whereabouts did you get your pants from and what are some other ways you could think of to mix and match and form an outfit (with the pants).

Sarah Walters: I got them from glue store, they're by melbourne jeans label Neuw! Have teamed them with simple silk tanks and heels for nights out with the girls, as well as with pastel knits.

CF: How would you best describe your fashion style? For instance, what would you favour or preferbly love to have on, in an everyday outfit to school or work?

SW: I tend to go for a statement piece mixed through with basics- like the floral pants with a white tee, or a printed blazer with jeans or block coloured pieces. I think it's important to at least be somewhat practical when pulling together an outfit for the day, and i am a firm believer in following fashion trends but implementing them with your own style- otherwise you'll just look wrong!

CF: Any particular fashion trend comes to mind and you would love to pull it off but think that it isn't suitable? Do elaborate why or why not you think it suits you:))

SW: Weirdly, I don't own much black at all. I will try things on and play with it but it's just too heavy a colour for me! It would be nice just to have some simple black pieces to refer to every now and then!

CF: Where would you usually shop at or recommend for fashionable pieces and styles?

SW: My biggest saviour when it comes to my shopping addiction is ebay. To avoid disappointment I usually only buy brands that I know the sizing and fit of quite well, but if it's not right- i sell it straight away! Also I keep myself signed up to databases of brands I love, you never know when they'll have a sample sale :)

CF: Do you have any style tips you would love to inspire others with?

SW: Be yourself- everyone else is taken!

CF: Who or what do you look to in order to be inspired?

SW: I think one of the only blogs I look at on a regular basis is 'They All Hate Us' which is a blog run by two girls in Sydney. Aside from that I take a lot of inspiration from my daily life- living near chapel street and going to Uni in the city keeps me surrounded by people with so many different tastes so it's an amazing source of inspiration!

How To: To get Sarah's look, set your sites on the huge variety and colours of floral pants at Polyvore. If you want something more rustic and vintage like Sarah's, do check out one of my favourite online stores, Etsy. They have a wider collection of vinatge one-of-a kind pieces. Check out Neuw as well for great styles of Denim pants. They have a vintage section so look there for a similar pair of Sarah's pants. Now, for a casual yet feminine look, remember to throw on the soft and sweet pastel knits which can be found easliy at Newlook, ASOS and Dotti. Finish off the look with classy heels or platforms that would make your legs look like they go on forever in your new stylish pants. Do keep a good balance in mind with simple and comfortable footwear like those at Gorman. On the other hand, for a fun night out or even on a playful school day, tune it up with bold colours and get colour blocking going on with your footwear.
