ALL ABOUT BEAUTY: Beautiful Braids

Uncategorized

When I saw this week's Fashionista, a few treats sprung to mind; strawberries and cream and fairy floss! This Fashionista's look is delightful and delicious for want of a better word. Her look is sweet as candy and is achieved by utilising a pallette of pastel colours, namely baby pink and baby blue. We know baylayage/ dip-dying/ ombre hair styles are big this season, but this Fashionista brings forward a new and exciting way of showing off the trending hair dye. The single braid on the side is a winner! Not only is it a convenient way of keeping long locks under control throughout a long, busy day, but it is a versatile hairstyle that can be tried for all sorts of looks, from pretty and preppy, to relaxed and bohemian and glam rock-and-roll.

High-profile beauties including Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Rachel McAdams and Nicole Kidman have all sported the braid on the red carpet. Plus, braids were also spotted several times during the Lela-Rose spring Fashion Show and also in Mecedes Benz Fashion Week. So how can you get this super-trendy do? Simply follow these steps to achieve a loose side braid. Firstly, you should prime your hair with a spritz spray such as Frederic Fekkai's Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel for an easy-to-work-with texture. You should pay extra attention to the very front-side strands that you are going to leave out of the braid, and use your fingers to create a bouffant around the crown of your head. Hint, if you have the time and patience, using a blowdryer during this step will bring fuller volume. Now that your hair is in the right condition, you need to section off the hair you are going to use in the braid, from that you are leaving out. I suggest clipping the excess on top of your head, because it can get quite confusing. Now, you can start braiding the length you have set aside for the braid. Alternate between tightness and looseness to create the messy look and ensure that it still holds. Tie with a clear elastic and break up the braid with your fingers as you please to get the look you want. Now unclip the locks on top of your head. You may wish to tease or curl some of this hair, or just work the spritz spray gel to create tousled tresses. And voilà! Spary with a medium-hold hair spray such as Tre Semme's Freeze Hold Hairspray.

So there you have it! Now you can all get on this hair favourite this season.
