Many of us mere mortals of the world suffer, what I have diagnosed as Unruly Natural Hair Syndrome or UNHS. This is when one cannot possibly leave the house without taming their hair in some form or another. Sufferers do not have beachy waves, angel curls or dead straight locks, but rather something in between. All we can do is be in complete awe of beauties such as this week’s Fashionista who was blessed with gorgeous natural ringlets. As if she wasn’t already lucky enough, she is also the beholder of a beautiful natural hair colour which is a shade of golden natural blonde.
I had seen this Fashionista around campus before and she always seemed to look stunning. Upon my approach she was charming and I was surprised to learn she ensembles all her looks from pieces she finds in op shops and vintage stores around her home town. Her look and her personality could be described as classic and sweet. For those of you out there who have been blessed by the same Hair Gods as this Fashionista, I pray you this; don’t fix what’s not broken! If you have springy ringlets, sexy beach waves or the like, embrace your natural hair! Those of us not so fortunate will look at you in admiration and probably be a bit jealous of your natural beauty.
Back to those of us not so lucky, my next advice comes from one another hair goddess; Elle Woods (Legally Blonde); ‘Don’t fight the fabric, change it’. While we may have to spend a bit more time artificially perfecting our hair, we can still achieve envious stares as we walk confidently through campus. Why not invest in a GHD hair straightener? This device can create silken straight lengths, glamorous waves and bouncy curls. For a less expensive model, try Remington's Infinity Hair Straightener. However, if you don’t want to apply so much heat on your hair, try creating curls by tying the ends of your hair in rags,as did my mother for my dancing cabarets when I was about six. Or try the old trick of plaiting your wet hair and sleeping in it. In the morning you will have waves of the same density as the parts of your braid or plait.
