Hello fellow Fashionista/os! I’m Catie Horseman, a junior at the University of Pittsburgh, Mexican food enthusiast, hopeless romantic and denim obsessed, dancing machine.
Having spent last summer scouring the streets of New York City for fellow sartorialists, it feels like my concept of fashion has gone on a complete roller coaster ride. Being surrounded by eclectic music, restaurants, architecture, love and people caused me to completely question what “fashion” really means. I’m still attempting to determine the answer, but until then I look forward to taking what I learned from all the beautiful Fashionista/os of New York City and bringing it to Pitt’s campus.
I grew up in beautiful St. Louis, MO, and continue to use the streets, nooks and local flavor of Pittsburgh to my advantage, developing my personal style. When people hear Missouri they probably don’t think of glamorous gowns or fierce fashion, but being raised in a place that has laid-back, vintage corner stores and thrift shops along with fast-paced city boutiques can produce some serious Fashionistas/os. Don’t believe me? Check out one of my favorite blogs, The Midwestyle, to see how we do it here in Mid-America.
Along with worn-in leather boots and vintage Levi's, I have a strong passion for Irish dancing. With its movements, rhythms and choreography, this style of dance completely speaks to my aesthetic and contributes to how I put together a complete look. If I’m not running around campus attempting to balance my oversized tote, camera bag and backpack, you’ll probably find me in the studio.
Like most Fashionistas/os, my personal style and taste is forever changing. I used to be a boho kind of girl, but as my knowledge of the industry grows I can’t seem to stop obsessing over clean lines, a classic silhouette and an overall minimalist look with a bit of edge. Think Jackie O. meets a modern day Sandy from the movie Grease.
Being a lover of all things fashion, I’m thrilled to continue exploring Pittsburgh for the latest trends and sharing my fab findings on CollegeFashionista with all of you!
