STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Give ‘Em The Boot

Style Advice of the Week

Ever since I bought my first pair of ballet flats, I’ve considered myself to be a bit of a ballet flat addict. I have far too many pairs of them and will wear them all year round, from the sweltering summer days and well into the chilly winter days that call for a shoe that covers one’s foot a bit more than a simple flat does. After making the transition to college this year, I realized what a mistake the latter actually was, especially when I was walking nearly a mile to class in snow, wind and 20 degree weather. That’s why I’ve been particularly observant of my peers’ footwear in these colder months and after taking a lesson from them, I’ve realized that a black leather boot is by far one of the chicest and most practical shoe a Fashionista can sport around campus come winter.

Take this Fashionista that I spotted walking on her way to class. She kept her look neutral by pairing an army green coat with a chunky gray sweater that peeked out from underneath. She finished off her look with jeans, a gray beanie and a pair of black leather boots. These boots were just the ticket to complete this cozy ensemble and any other shoe would not have done her winter-casual look justice. Warm, functional and adorable. What more could a Fashionista ask for in a winter outfit?

If you’re looking for some boots to pair with your bundled-up campus looks for these last few months of winter, Zappos is always a great place to start. For those of you who willing to experiment with your winter footwear, these edgy, studded Mia Crusader boots are definitely worth a try and these black and brown Hunter Boots are a classic but interesting take on the black boot.

So take a cue from this Fashionista and consider a sleek pair of boots to keep your feet warm in between classes. As for me, I can’t promise I’ll completely pack away my beloved ballet flats until spring rolls around, but I’d say a new pair of black boots would certainly be a smart addition to my shoe collection until then!
