Today’s Fashionista gets cozy in a boho-chic look that has me wanting to trade in my usual skinny jeans for a patterned maxi skirt like hers. The light denim contrasting with the warm-colored floral has a retro vibe that’s complemented by her long, sleek hair. There’s something very ’70s about it all, which is a nice departure from all the ’90s-inspired looks lately. I also love her chunky black scarf because with the inconsistent weather — some days it’s sunny and mild and other days it’s a snowstorm — it is oh-so-necessary to be prepared. CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Lydia Rui Huang: I guess Gypset, ideally, so bohemian meets urban.
CF: What do you think about fashion in NYC and at NYU?
LRH: I tend to look outside of NYU for inspiration, but I lived in Williamsburg for three years and I would just walk down the street and see people dressed edgy — I like edgy.
CF: What are some of your favorite stores?
LRH: Free People, the brand One Teaspoon; For Love and Lemons is another [brand] I love.
CF: Where do you look for jewelry?
LRH: I don’t have a brand of jewelry that I particularly like, but whenever I travel I make sure to buy earrings and necklaces and bracelets from wherever I go. I tend to have a very ethnic, varied collection.
CF: Where in the world have you shopped for jewelry?
LRH: I was really disappointed when I went to Tibet; most of the jewelry I found was actually cheap Chinese jewelry, but Mexico has some really great jewelry.
