FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Katya Simkhovich

Fashionista Spotlight

Winter fashion is not this Fashionista’s favorite, but I think she did a great job putting together a casual, stylish look that had personality. I like the way she offset her bright pants and colored sweater with a neutral coat, black shoes and muted accessories. Also, the short coat allows her to show off her pants, whereas if she were wearing a long parka (which, I’ll admit, is what I’ve been wearing everyday) we’d only get a glimpse of the pink. Read on to find out more about this winter-ready Fashionista.

Name: Katya Simkhovich

Year: Freshman

Major: Food Studies

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?

Katya Simkhovich: Generally, I wear what makes me happy. I usually don’t wear pants like this — these are a little tight for me. But I went to yoga this morning and was feeling good, like, ‘yeah, I can totally wear tight pants today!’ Usually I’m kind of bohemian; I wear looser pants and looser tops. Usually a lot of prints and a lot of color — that’s what makes me happy.

CF: Where do you shop?

KS: I gotta admit, Urban Outfitters’ sale section always does wonders. There’s a place on Broadway; it’s like a little semi-outdoor market that has a ton of pants that are really cheap…flea markets, thrift stores — anything that looks good.

CF: What’s your favorite season for fashion?

KS: I love summer. I’m really waiting for summer to come. Spring and summer — it’s just more flowy and loose and you can be more versatile with it.

CF: What’s one thing in your wardrobe that you couldn’t live without?

KS: I have one flannel shirt that’s my dad’s that I just wear with everything. I wear it at home; I wear it out sometimes.

How To: To achieve this Fashionista’s bright and fun look, pair pink skinnies with a patterned sweater. To contrast the pink more drastically, a black and white sweater (bunnies or stripes?) will really pop. Finish off the look with black lace-up boots, a hooded coat and some warm headgear.
