Tis' the season for ice skating dates, big family dinners and meeting your boyfriends/girlfriends parents for the first time. This week’s Fashionista shows us how to appropriately dress while being home for the holidays. In a printed sweater paired with a pair of black jeggings and her classic riding boots, she's perfectly down-to-earth for any occasion. To add some glitz, she layered a beaded, collared button-down showing off her wild side. Her look is simple with a little flair, and is sure to impress all your relatives, old and new.
Name: Maggie Ann
Major: Mental Health Therapy
Year: Senior
CollegeFashionista: Tell me about your look today. What inspired you to pick out this outfit?
Maggie Ann: I always love layering a number of different pieces, so today’s no different. I was inspired by the Free People catalogs which always incorporate different layers. Plus, I’m obsessed with the new, jeweled collared pieces that are just coming out, they’re super fun!
CF: Where are your pieces from?
MA: My sweater is Free People from Nordstrom, my shirt is Maison Scotch and my jeggings I think are from Urban Outfitters.
CF: What’s your advice for people who want to take on this home for the holidays trend?
MA: It’s super easy to pull off and it looks good on every body type! Just always remember to be conservative, but still cute. Try layering a sweater with a collared button down like I did today.
CF: And what’s your take on accessorizing this look?
MA: Simple is better. Maybe wear a large, unisex watch or even continue the layering look with a few, basic rings. Pick one or the other.
CF: Who’s your favorite go-to designer for these basic pieces?
MA: I love Diane Von Furstenberg for simple outfits like this one. She always makes flattering pieces in fun colors and prints, but her work is never too crazy or impractical.
CF: What's your favorite thing to wear in the classroom?
MA: Well, my hair is always crazy and most mornings I’m too tired to do it, so I love fun beanies and barrets.
How To: To get this home for the holidays trend, keep it simple and conservative like Maggie said. For a more elegant look, layer a printed sweater with a peplum jacket and some ballet flats. If you’re feeling a little more edgy, try a patterned blouse underneath your favorite sweater and paired with your black, leather boots. Accessories should always be minimal however, you wouldn’t want your diamonds to take away from your already sparkling personality.
