Hats off to this Fashionista for being trendy and taking fashion risks for a regular school day, keep reading to hear her secret to this look.
Name: Lauren Barnes
Major: Business Management
Year: Junior
CollegeFashionista: What was your inspiration for this trendy look today?
Lauren Barnes: It’s the last warmer week of the season before temperatures drop dramatically, so I’m avoiding my jacket while I still can. I was inspired by the floral jean trend that was so popular this summer, but my jeans are gray and so I think they’re appropriate all year round.
CF: What are your jeans?
LB: They’re Citizens of Humanity.
CF: I like how you paired your jeans with another wild print, how do you know which prints to mix and match?
LB: Well, it’s important to not try to match your prints, too much of one pattern can give people a headache. Also, make sure one is just an accessory like shoes or a bracelet or a fun belt.
CF: What’s your advice for people who want to take on this trend?
LB: First of all, it’s difficult to find floral jeans that aren’t so bright. Depending on the color of the print, you could come off too summery. So my advice would be to choose a print that's darker and also mix in a contrasting top, you don’t want to blend your pieces together.
CF: What’s your favorite brand or store that you go to get your patterned pieces?
LB: Free People is a good one, you can shop online since there isn’t one in Minnesota, also they sell it at Nordstrom and Bloomingdales. Free People is always up to date on the latest trends and they have a ton of prints!
CF: So what’s next for your wardrobe when temperatures get cooler?
LB: Fur duh! I love my faux fur coats and vests and they’re super warm.
How To: To get this fall version of a summer trend, chose your color scheme wisely. If you can’t find floral pattern jeans in a darker shade, go for another print that's appropriate for the season. Pair your unique jeans with a basic, contrasting top and minimal jewelry. If you’re feeling extra bold, combine your jeans with another printed accessory, but as this Fashionista said, make sure the prints aren’t too matchy-matchy. This trend is for only the bravest Fashionistas, so step out of your box and start your adventure with a little fall flower action.
