STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pleated Sophistication

Style Advice of the Week

Whenever I see someone who dares to carry a more sophisticated and mature outfit I stop and look. In fact, I stop, look and snap a picture, simply because I feel it borders on enlightening to see how a student can have such a sensibility for fashion and style beyond their years. Wearing pleated skirts with tights is almost like an underrated art form. The delicacy of it is beautiful. It’s easy to look elegant in them and easy to set yourself apart from all the jeans-wearing crowd, so it’s definitely a style statement. Sometimes some may feel the need to shy away from wearing them, but they definitely work on everyone when worn the right way. Whether you chose a longer or short length, a dark or bright color or even prints, you can rely on tights to make it look elegant and stylish on you.

If perhaps, wearing a skirt alone isn’t comfortable enough for you, trying on a dress with a fitted top and pleated bottom would do the trick as well and would look just a nice when paired with a knitted jumper, like the one this Fashionista is wearing. Choosing to wear a very neutral and classical black and combining it with a much brighter color like green, helps it stay away from boring and dated and brings life and youth to the entire look. Don’t forget about the element of fun in the accessories with a playful bag like this Bloomingdale’s “Big Canvas Bag”, a witty twist on bags.

You don’t need to break bank to be sophisticated, it just takes a couple (or three) great purchases like an ASOS pleated skirt, an H&M knitted jumper and a good pair of tights to achieve the look.
