STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: I Gotta Cut Loose, Footloose

Style Advice of the Week

Traditionally when someone thinks of sneakers, he or she thinks of working out, sports and anything athletic-related. But for this Fashionista, she paired a military-inspired jacket, boyfriend jeans and an animal print scarf with a white pair of classic Converse sneakers to tie the whole look together. When scouting for my next report, I spotted this Fashionista, a retail merchandising major, in class. I was drawn to her unexpected choice of shoes but when I looked at her outfit as a whole, the outfit felt complete only because of the killer shoes.

The classic and timeless sneaker company Converse was founded in 1908 and has been a household name for over a century now. Converse is one of those staple wardrobe items that can be worn on multiple occasions and will be around for years from now. This Fashionista said she got her pair two Christmas’s ago and plans on wearing them for many years to come. Although I spotted these shoes in class, they can be seen on Kevin Bacon in the iconic movie Footloose as he dances his way through life.

These sneakers are chic and weather friendly. While the weather in Tallahassee is pretty unpredictable, you have to be ready to expect the unexpected. Meaning, it could be in the 70s and sunny in the morning and 40s and raining by the afternoon. This Fashionista did just that with what she calls her comfortable, messy and imperfectly put together look. The military jacket is great for cold weather but it can be removed. The jeans are any cold weather staple, the sneakers are great for rain and then the scarf adds an unexpected hint of excitement to the outfit.

If you’re ever in a time crunch and need a quick outfit for tough weather conditions throw on a pair of sneakers, jeans and a printed scarf and you’ll be ready to tough the weather conditions just like any true Fashionista!
