STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Journey to Gypsy

Style Advice of the Week

I do not know any girl who has ever watched the classic animated movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame who has not wanted to be Esmeralda. Whimsical, kind- hearted, beautiful and impeccably dressed, the gypsy princess and her bohemian look have recently given rise to a new trend on campus.

This week’s Fashionista, like Esmeralda, is robed in a graceful maxi skirt, slouchy shirt and descendant jewelry. The maxi skirt is definitely on trend for this fall. The skirt’s lively jungle themed print helps separate this Fashionista from the rest of the pack.

Adding to the gypsy look is the Fashionista’s slouched, off the shoulder black top. It gives her the carefree, simple air that every traveler exudes. Also, the leopard printed belt cinched around her waist reintroduces the patches of animal print on the skirt and helps to tie the look together.

If you would like to follow in this Fashionista’s footsteps and channel traveler chic, my suggestion is to start with floor sweeping maxis, stacks of gold bangles and large earrings. Try mixing prints and tying scraps of fabric around your head like headbands. Embrace cropped tops and ones that fall off your shoulders.  Looking to complement your traveler’s outfit?  Try hair that is cast down and wavy. Also incorporate flat earth toned or neutral shoes to complete the look. See Emilio Pucci’s latest collection for more inspiration.

In the end, Esmeralda was remembered for being fearless. This is probably the most important aspect when dressing like a traveler. Be confident and take risks and you too can be as chic as the gypsy princess we all know and love.
