FASHIONISTO SPOTLIGHT: Matt Simonian

Fashionisto Spotlight

For some guys a sport shirt may unfortunately imply a Brooklyn Nets basketball jersey or their favorite NHL team T-shirt, but what do they know? When I found this Fashionisto walking to class I knew right away that he understood the true meaning behind the garment name. However, I did a double take after noticing that he had actually created his own definition! What I thought was just a classic plaid button-down really was a trend setting patchwork top. He boldly took a classic look and applied elements from his own personal style to create a unique twist. Most guys take a lot of heat for having a sense of style or being on trend, but I applaud those like this Fashionisto who willingly choose corduroys over old ripped jeans. I think it is something to be celebrated. So, cheers to the boys with style!

Name: Matt Simonian

Major: Business Finance

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?

Matt Simonian: I would say during the day my style tends to be pretty casual and more athletic than at night. When I go out I dress a little more preppy than usual.

CF: What or who influences your personal style?

MS: Steve Cook and Dom Mazzetti influence my lifestyle and what I wear from day to day.

CF: What are a few staple pieces in your wardrobe that you cannot live without?

MS: My cutoffs, black tees and collared shirts

CF: Do you think that aspects of your personality are reflected through the way you dress?

MS: Yeah, I would say so. I have a relaxed personality and for the most part the clothes I wear are comfortable and laid back. I am also always on the go, between going to the gym and my classes I need a style that is quick and easy but still looks good.

CF: Clothing options for guys tend to be a bit more limited than for girls. What are your secrets to making yourself and your style stand out?

MS: I wouldn’t say I have any secrets. I just like my clothes to be comfortable but with elements that look cool and different.

How To: Want to snag this Fashionisto’s style? Well, it might be a lot easier than you think. To achieve this look, start out with a plaid sport shirt. To emulate this Fashionisto’s fashion forward button-down, search for a “patchwork” plaid and kick it up a notch. Match the top with a pair of simple classic or dark wash khakis. Next, add a peacoat for both warmth and style. Polish off the look with a pair of work boots to keep it casual.
