I’m sure that most of you CollegeFashionistas can relate to this little problem I have: being flat out broke. Between student loans, minimum wage retail jobs and indulging in those late night lattes (hey, they add up!), it is a wonder how we have enough money to spend on clothes and accessories. To save money, I love when I can integrate pieces in my wardrobe from other seasons. It makes me feel like I am getting more for my dollar. I spotted this Fashionista walking through my local downtown shopping district sipping on a warm chai tea latte (see my point?). She shows us exactly how to bring some of last season’s pieces back by pairing a skirt with an oversized sweater and tights.
Name: Carly Villane
Major: Fashion Merchandising
Year: Sophomore
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Carly Villane: I like to mix classic pieces like a white T-shirt with edgy pieces like a sequined blazer or a bohemian sweater with funky tights and booties. My style is all about fun and comfort!
CF: Who is your style icon and why?
CV: I absolutely love anything that Blake Lively wears. I am a devoted Gossip Girl fan, so I am inspired by everything she wears on the show. She mixes such unique pieces together and is not afraid to take fashion risks.
CF: What is your go-to outfit?
CV: This past fall semester I found myself wearing leggings, a big sweater, a scarf and leather boots very often to class. This look is easy and can be easily updated with different accessories and shoes. It’s just a plus that this outfit is also extremely comfortable!
CF: Who is currently your favorite fashion designer?
CV: I was really intrigued by Alexander Wang’s spring 2013 collection. His laser-cut designs were absolutely incredible! I’m definitely a huge fan!
CF: Describe your style in one word.
CV: Chic.
How To: Take a page out of this CollegeFashionista’s notebook and create this look by first starting out with a cozy oversized sweater and a tight-fitted skirt. Cover up those legs from the cold with a pair of funky tights, and further accessorize with a pair of patterned socks. To show off this cool new sock trend, stick with ankle booties to construct this look. To top it all off, throw on a long necklace or a scarf to complete the outfit!
