My name is Bella and I am a first year student at the University of California — Davis majoring in Communication with a minor in Textiles and Clothing. After college I plan to work in the fashion business with a career in public relations, marketing, styling or merchandising.
Since I was a child, I always looked to clothes for entertainment. Every day I dressed up my Barbies and paper dolls in different outfits, pranced around in my frou-frou party dresses or sneakily rummaged through my older sister’s closet to put on a one woman (well, girl at the time) fashion show. By the time I attended middle school, I was fixated with the fashion world and how I could express my individuality through my daily outfits. It was that time I began looking into high-end fashion, learning about couture designers, searching for fashion blogs and gaining interest in the business of fashion itself. When I reached the end of high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion. I have experimented with so many different styles throughout the years that I cringe when I think of all of the stages I have been through: tomboy, punk, preppy, etc. I am not embarrassed by the styles themselves but how I approached them. To me, fashion is all about presentation and fluidity. A look has to mesh and mine certainly did not.
Today, I am happy to say I am close to finding my signature style. Though I am a sucker for dresses and feminine, vintage details, I am trying to lean towards a more minimal, urban city chic. I love sharp, structured silhouettes as much as I do soft and whimsical. Although my style is slowly transitioning at the moment, I always try to dress in something I am proud of and comfortable in. If I were to describe my style in one word, it would be simple because I think simple can be the most striking.
I look forward to hunting down the most fashionable students at UC Davis and sharing their outfits with you all! Here’s to a great summer.
