BEAUTY BAR: The Man Bun

Many people have many different views on one of the hottest trends at the moment—man buns. While some find them sexy and manly, others are not the biggest fans of this hairstyle. Whether you love the man bun trend or hate it, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon (and there is proof of that). Pop sensation, Justin Bieber, was recently photographed rocking a small man bun. Bieber is not only a pop star, but is also a fashion icon to young men around the world. Whether you’re drooling over his Saint Laurent jackets or his Balmain hoodies, you have to admit that the guy has style, so he knows what hairstyles are in and which ones are out (and man buns are definitely in).

Bieber chooses to sport the undercut mixed with the man bun, which pop culture calls a top knot. But not all man buns are the same, meaning you actually have several different choices when considering this trendy look. I’ve seen men with straight hair, curly hair, long hair and short hair rock the man bun. The type of hair you have helps determine what type of bun you can pull off. This Fashionisto rocks a classic lumberjack man bun; his curly hair is long enough to pull back into a messy bun. If he had an interview or an internship to go to, he could throw some product in his hair to make a sleeker, more business-like bun.

This Fashionisto completes this lumberjack look with a black and red flannel button-down shirt and a pair of black jeans. This Fashionisto has no fear of breaking fashion rules, mixing black with brown, and he totally owned this so-called fashion faux pas. He complemented his brown ALDO boots with a brown Michael Kors watch. I think that the black and brown rule is one that you can definitely break as long as you wear it with confidence.

So, are you going to jump on the man bun bandwagon now that Bieber has? Maybe you want to take your bun to a whole new level by shaving the sides of your head. Whatever you choose, remember that there are so many options when it comes to the man bun—a fun trend you won’t want to miss out on.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: This Fashionisto has a very simple styling routine. He wets his hair and slicks it back into a bun, tying it back with a thick black hair tie. It can’t get much easier than that. As I mentioned before, if you are worries about fly aways or if you want to get a sleeker look, a little bit of pomade wouldn’t hurt.
