BEAUTY BAR: The Classic With A Twist

I think it’s safe to say that red lips will never go out of style. From Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe to Emma Watson and Taylor Swift, it seems as though this trend will never die. To me, this is a blessing in disguise. A great red lip is the perfect accessory to almost any outfit (and much cheaper than yet another layered necklace). However, I think it’s about time to spice up this classic trend. This Fashionista added her own spin on the classic red lip. Instead of choosing a red lipstick, she chose a dark purple.

The key to this trend is to choose a bold, off red color. Think shades like plum, deep purple and a deep scarlet. Don’t get intimidated when looking at these shades in the store. I know they can look a little daunting, and the idea of putting a purple lipstick on may seem ridiculous, but I promise these colors are going to look great on. This Fashionista works this dark purple by making her lips the main focus. When wearing a bold lipstick, it’s important to keep everything else rather minimalistic. Try not to wear dark eyeshadows or lots of bronzer and blush. This will add too much color. Instead, keep the foundation minimal, and wear simple eyeliner, mascara and a light eyeshadow. This Fashionista used a light pink eyeshadow and black eyeliner to complement the dark lip. This makes the bold lip not so overwhelming.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: The most important part is finding the perfect shade of lipstick. Sephora is a great place to start. If you want to start with a simpler, bold color, then the Kat Von D lipstick in L.U.V. is great. If you’re looking for something a little bit darker, then try MAKE UP FOR EVER in color 14. If you want something ultra bold, then try MAKE UP FOR EVER in N50
