BEAUTY BAR: Sprucing Up a Simple Look

With nothing but cold months ahead of us, it’s often times hard to make an outfit feel as put-together as something you would wear in the warmer month. It is understandable; there are only so many reiterations of jeans, coat, and a scarf that you can wear before you start to feel like you’re sinking into a bland, fashion purgatory. It’s often hard to make a coats look as if you didn’t just throw it on before you walked out of the door to class—which may be pretty true, because hey, it’s really cold out.

However, this Fashionista seems to have found a way to pull together this simple, casual look, that will also keep her warm on the trek to class. It seems, for this Fashionista, the key to polishing off a super casual look is bold makeup. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it; the dramatic lip adds a very meditated and almost high fashion element to what would otherwise be an “overlookable” outfit. Essentially this eliminates the just thrown together vibe that the typical winter college student’s staple jeans, T-shirt, and jacket look.

This Fashionista has let her makeup do all the risk-taking in her look, featuring NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Stone Fox; a bluish-gray tone that isn’t nearly as overwhelming as a pure black lipstick. Her winged-eyeliner – with wings that flare out to be parallel with her eyebrows, adding symmetry to the face—was a black, waterproof eyeliner, perfect for the long day of wear that a casual outfit like this would call for. She accented her eyes with pink and nude tones, and brushed some light eyeshadow over the inner edges of her eyeliner. This added to the drama of the look, with the lightened portion of her eyeliner matching her lipstick, pulling her makeup together that much more.
