BEAUTY BAR: Ribbon Like Chanel

It’s summer, I’ve been growing out my hair and it’s the perfect season to experiment with a different look before school comes back in session.  The streets are always filled with inspirational looks that women conquer and make their own, replicating much from the runways.  My style has always been influenced by a grunge inner city style but I also like to switch it up and show a chic minimalism look as well.  During the summer months, I feel great when my hair is out of my face, but at the same time, I love showing off my long locks.  The perfect medium you ask?  Sure the half ponytail may seem a little outdated, it wasn’t long ago when teasing your hair was the such a popular, yet awful trend. But actually, half pony tails and minimalism to the hair is trending right now. It’s all about less is more and having that natural born fierceness. Recently, Chanel had a show recently where Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne both walked the finale together in Victorian-inspired looks with ribbon detailing in their hair. The bow is back!  I’m not talking about a childish bow that your mum would tie in your hair during the elementary school years.  I’m talking a chic, minimal hair trend that you can keep up throughout the summer and even throughout the fall.  If it’s sophisticated enough for the Chanel runway, it’s definitely chic enough for your summer ‘do.

This Fashionista excels with this look by DIYing her own bow and keeping it simple. Her ombre helps build a nice summer warmth to her hair and a clean contrast. This look works because she curled her hair enough to make her curls look modern and an everyday look without it looking like a diva prom queen.  The bow also gives a good head to toe vibe of class. Not sure about where you should tie your bow in your hair? Have fun with it. This Fashionista experiments by placing it in the middle of her half pony tail to keep it loose but feel free to tie it on the top of you head, or even at the end of your half pony tail. Pairing the feminine tie with a minimalist black dress gives this entire look an old Hollywood feeling.  The dark Coach sunglasses help establish this Hollywood feel and is perfect for a sunny day.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? DIYing your own hair bow can be fun! You can choose the color, pattern and width and simply cut your own ribbon to your liking. I suggest sticking to neutrals though for an everyday look so that it doesn’t look out of place from that minimal look you wish to achieve. A wand curling iron works perfectly when wanting to achieve those natural curls without it looking over the top. I recommend using a dual boar paddle brush because it detangles the hair without damaging it and works for all hair types. Style on!
