BEAUTY BAR: Red Lip Classic

Gwyneth Paltrow once said, “Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.” That quote came to mind the moment I crossed paths with this Fashionista. And her lipstick is not the only thing that fits this quote. During a conversation with her, she said that, “Makeup is not about making over yourself or hiding behind a mask; it is about bringing out your best self.” I do not think she and Paltrow would disagree.

What brings out the best in you pushes you to feel comfortable in your own skin and to be confident. That is what this Fashionista’s red lips do for her. Using Sephora’s coral red liquid lipstick, she walked Loyola Chicago’s campus in a styled look that punched finals in the face. The choice to wear a red lip during finals week (or any week for that matter) exudes poise, passion and boldness from this Fashionista. And her outfit is tailored around the red lips, as well.

With a wing-shaped eyeliner, taupe eye shadow, a nice flick of mascara and pressed powder, the red is accentuated. Nothing is overdone or too much, so a natural look is presented, along with her best self. It also adds brightness and vibrancy to her darker outfit. Whether she’s smiling or not, the red lip keeps her camera ready.

Getting this look is easy. Find the right shade of red for your skin tone and match it with an outfit any James Dean would go googly-eyes for.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To recreate what this Fashionista is sporting, use beauty products that keep your face from being shiny so that the red is all that shines. Whether it is a matte liquid liner from NYX, pressed powder from Sephora, Maybelline mascara or taupe-colored eye shadow, you’ll be ready to sucker punch the haters with your red lip classic and have a rad day.
