BEAUTY BAR: Hair Envy

I’ve developed a theory during my last three years at college. Having a good outfit is one thing; having your outfit and hair “on fleek” is another. However, a great outfit is nothing without a good set of hair. Whether it’s in a ponytail or gracing your shoulders, hair is important. Being a Fashionista means more than just having good style; to be a Fashionista you need to master makeup and hair skills as well. Sure it’s an intense job, but no pain, no game, am I right?

The point is that a good hair day can do wonders for your look. When I was 18 years old I realized a much cooler way to have great hair. Curling and straightening were nice, but this long time brunette was ready to shake things up. After six hours, I had my first ombré. I’ve been in love ever since! I’ve gone a little blonder each time and even had a rebel phase when I dip-dyed my hair pink in London.

As a believer in all things ombré, it’s become something I’m always looking for on the streets. This Fashionista, although I hate to admit it, had me feeling some serious hair envy. I mean, look at that color! The distressed texture of her hair and matte color, that looks like a culmination of blonde, gray and purple, is simply cool. It’s easy to just say “give me some blonde tips,” but it takes guts to try something new, fresh and funky. There’s no limits when it comes to the things you can do with your hair. My favorite color is blue and if I want some periwinkle in my hair, I can do that. If you’re taking risks with your wardrobe, you should be doing it with your hairstyles as well. It’s fun and a great way to kick off the back-to-school season.

Show all your classmates how fabulous you truly are. Give them something to talk about. They may have missed you over the summer, but they won’t miss you now with that confident hair-do and vibrant hair color. Do a hair flip and march down the streets; make heads turn every time you head to class.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To get color like this, the first step is to brighten your hair as much as possible. Basically, get it as white as you can possibly get it. Then do a black color rinse over the white to create the gray color you desire. Depending on how light or intense you want the gray to be, you may have to use more or less of the black. Good Luck!
