BEAUTY BAR: Double Dutch

As much as I love summer, there is one part of it that I could do without—the humidity. Nothing can ruin a good hair day like your perfectly styled locks expanding into a frizzy mess. My fellow curly-headed girls know the struggle of sculpting your hair into the exact shape you want it, and then having it all come apart as soon as you step outside. Because of this, I resigned myself for years to simply throwing my hair into a bun and calling it a day.

This summer, I decided to change things up. Braids are a great way to look cute in no time at all, and won’t come apart as soon as humidity sets in. They also help keep fly-aways tucked in place, so no matter what you do all of your hair will stay perfectly in place. There are so many different ways to braid hair and so many different hairstyles you can incorporate them into.

This Fashionista decided to beat the heat and look cute while doing it by making two simple Dutch braids and letting them fall down her back. This is a hairstyle that is simple to learn and looks great on any length or texture of hair. It also adds a little interest to your outfit. Paired with a floral skirt and some combat boots, these braids complete the unique look and add to the contrast between girly and edgy.

To make Dutch braids like these, separate strands into three equal sections. Begin by picking an end section, and moving it into the middle by going under the section next to it. Then take the section from the opposite end and again place it in the middle by going under the section next to it. Repeat this process until you’ve reached the end of the hair, then secure.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? Before you start braiding, a pomade can be used to smooth strands. Once braids are in place, a few bobby pins and two hair ties are all you need to lock in the style.
