BEAUTY BAR: Curl Talk

Winter is here and the struggle is still very real for curly haired Fashionistas. If you have curly hair, you have surely tried multiple products to maintain your curls. You may also struggle with societal norms and standards surrounding your hair type. Is my hair too big? Should I straighten my hair for this interview? Should I pull my hair back to seem less intimidating? These are all questions that may have unfortunately crossed your mind.

This Fashionista has made SheaMoisture apart of her hair regime for the past three years. SheaMoisture is a personal care company that has over 150 products made with organic, natural and eco-friendly ingredients for any hair type—straight, kinky, curly or wavy. Their recent #BreaktheWalls campaign stressed the importance of natural beauty and its accessibility. Curly haired women of color have been conditioned to look through a beauty aisle to search for the “ethnic” corner. Seclusion and insecurity are common results. SheaMoisture has helped women of all ages accept their natural beauty by providing quality products. Our Fashionista uses the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo ($11) and the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-in Conditioner ( $11) to reduce frizz, smoothen and define her curls.

For this Fashionista, simplicity is key when choosing an outfit. My favorite part of the look is the pair of ripped jeans. With a soft tone color, you can pair it with a variety of textures and colors to achieve any look.

Beauty is constantly changing and no longer needs to be defined by media. It’s time to celebrate your own beauty whether it is your hair, your body type, or clothing. Find products that will leave you comfortable and confident with yourself.
