BEAUTY BAR: Buns, Man

Whether you like it or not, the man bun trend has spread and looks like it’s here to stay. College guys all over seem to be rocking the edgy and unique hairstyle. Especially during these last summer months, it is a stylish and practical way to cool down. I have found that the man bun look falls under two categories: ’90s-inspired Brad Pitt/Johnny Depp tousled bun or the European-inspired slicked back topknot.

The ’90s are back and in a big way. 1996 Johnny Depp rocked luscious locks and when needed, pulled it back into a messy bun. Now in 2015, college guys seem to be ditching the scissors and letting their hair flow. The longer the better to be able to pull it back into a bun to create an effortless, but stylish look. This “do” normally follows with a scruffy beard and a flannel to match.

The newer, more evolved version of the man bun is the half-bun or topknot. How it works is the hair on the top of the head is longer, reserved for the bun, while the rest is either buzzed or very short. This look requires a trip to your local barber to enhance those straight edges and slicked back bun on top. This style gives guys a more distinct and fresh look. Pair your topknot with some Ray-Bans, a plain T-shirt and some Chucks and you’re all set.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To recreate the same style as this Fashionisto pictured above, grow out those locks, grab a hair tie and simply pull it back. He is rocking the more rugged style man bun and is definitely making a statement. He pulled the look together with a pair of Ray-Bans, a brightly patterned button-up, ripped skinny jeans and white Chucks. Make this look your own by incorporating your own style and flair!
