BEAUTY BAR: Bright Eyes, Bold Lip

For most summer days, bare, SPF covered skin is all you want. Not only does it greatly reduce your morning beauty routine, but it’s also really relaxing and comfortable. It’s such a relief to be able to cleanse your face when need be without destroying your look. However, when you’re headed out and want to dress things up, your makeup routine is also taken to the next level in accordance. All the foundations, powders, concealers and  lip sticks will be right where you left them!

This season is the opportune time to try out a fun and unexpected beauty look. This Fashionista went for a darker lip color with a bright, yet subtle eye. She used her dark lip (MAC’s Diva) to dramatize it all, adding some funky fringe to the outfit with her Rebecca Minkoff flats. The layered, black silk tank top matched perfectly with the white, distressed, cropped denim. For her day of activities she opted for a Michael Kors tote which matched her color palette impeccably.

Make it a point to always use a lip balm prior to applying such a bold color so that your lips soft and smooth. Allow your lip balm to soak in/absorb (about five to 10 minutes). Next, blot your lips a few times with a tissue to take off any excess lip balm. Line your lips with liner that matches your natural lip color, not the lipstick. Draw the lip line and then blend with a brush into all the nooks and crannies by stretching out your lips flat.

Finally, try to take the brush again and create a little more definition. To avoid incessant reapplication, start by applying a stain in the color you’re trying to achieve. Apply it all over the lip and then blot any excess off on a tissue. Similar to foundation, if you dust a thin layer of translucent setting powder on top, you will increase the lip’s lifetime. You could use a lipstick in a slightly lighter or darker shade if you want more dimension to appear in the final outcome. To balance out bold lip color, keep the rest of your makeup minimal.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To construct your own version of this look, you will first need to find something similar to this Fashionista’s deep red matte shade. Then you can choose which stain you desire in the same shade. Your lip liner should resemble the same shade as your lip. To achieve the summer smoky eye, use a combination of rose-hued neutral shades from the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. Use a mixture of Mugshot, Blackberry, Darkside and Trick. To get the sharp, clean, winged liner you should select your liner style preference (easiest for you to manipulate: liquid vs. pencil). Don’t forget about adding in false lashes or mascara, which can be found at the drugstore or from your online retailer of choice.
