STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Subtle Details

Style Advice of the Week

When it comes to shopping in the city, a Fashionista wants an outfit that is easy to move around in to snatch great finds off hangers, but also an outfit that is eye-catching and fashionable. The easiest way to achieve this look is by wearing something that without added details and accents could be as simple as a pair of jeans and a T-shirt.

I spotted this Fashionista over the weekend on her way into San Francisco’s Saks Fifth Avenue. Surely she was on an important mission to attack every level of Saks and emerge in mere hours with carefully selected items. The only way to do so efficiently is to be wearing comfortable clothes. Because one has to maintain a certain sophisticated look while in the city, it can prove difficult at times to choose a practical yet refined outfit.

This Fashionista caught my eye because of her unique but classic top and overall ensemble.  Most important are the details that help tie it together in a subtle way. The ruffle accent on the shoulder is reminiscent of Coco Chanel’s innovative designs, as it adds structure and form to an otherwise simple and practical piece. I also like how this Fashionista adds some more detail to her outfit with her black heels adorned with bows.

I really like this Topshop T-shirt with daisy beaded detail on the neckline and shoulders because the texture gives it a more elegant and dressed-up look than a plain black blouse. A similar look is achieved with this pink and black lace T-shirt by H&M. Steve Madden always has a multitude of super cute shoes, like these peep-toe platform pumps festooned with a side bow. Detail can be added in many different forms, and as long as it is not used in excess, can be a lovely accessory to your outfit!
