Hello! My name is Mary Lucas and I am thrilled to be returning to College Fashionista as a Style Guru! As a junior studying Fashion Design at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, I see fashion all day, every day. In the span of just 24 hours I spot more unique styles than I know what to do with. Even in just one of my classes, the range of looks and styles varies greatly. I see everything from vintage band tees with pearls to boys in fur or heels, and I love it all. I love that in a school like Parsons and a city like New York, nothing is too wild. You can dress how you choose and are free to express yourself however you might like, and no one looks down on you for it.
Myself, I am still figuring out my style. In answer to the question “What’s the one world you would use to describe your style” I would say I’m not sure. There is not just one word to express how I dress. In fact, every day would be a big jumble of words. I might be a rocker chick one day and a plain Jane the next. I feel just as at home in a white t-shirt and boyfriend jeans as I do in an evening gown, and am comfortable mixing a wide variety of styles. Yes, I make a few mistakes sometimes in the quest to find that one elusive word to correctly explain the way I dress, but isn’t that what Fashion is about? Not everything is perfect; in fact, some of the most interesting outfits are far from it. I never look for perfection, but what I do consistently look for is a sense of fun. I love the girl that can mix styles or isn’t afraid to take a risk, even if it might fail. I always strive to have that element of fun in the way I dress, and I appreciate when other Fashionistas do as well.
