Oftentimes when I go shopping, I will find something so fabulous that I just have to have it. A month or two will go by and that jacket or top that was practically screaming my name doesn’t seem to have much of a voice anymore. It sits in the back of my closet, usually with its tag still on, awaiting the day that I will pull it out, give it a long once-over and put it out to be worn the next day.
Most of these items are seemingly basic things that may have a really trendy print such as this Fashionista’s leopard pants. My key rule with patterns is to pick one and let it be the focal point of the outfit. This white embellished collared button-down is a classic staple piece that can stand alone or allow just enough interest on top and complement the liveliness of printed pants on the bottom. The trickiest part of an outfit can sometimes be finding the perfect shoes. A basic black peep toe pump is a perfect shoe that can go with almost any outfit.
One Simple Change: This look transitions great from day to night. If you’re looking to add a little color for a night out, put a little pep in your step in bright red flatform wedges. If you’re feeling a little more daring, try following a fall 2013 runway trend by trading out a white button down with an electric blue blouse instead. The next time you find yourself lusting after a crazy pair of pants or top just think back to all the basic items in your closet that you can pair it with!
