I am ecstatic to be Cal Poly’s Style Guru this year. I am a sophomore majoring in Communication Studies and according to Oprah, living in the happiest city in America, San Luis Obispo. I was born and raised in the fashionable city of Los Angeles and I consider San Luis Obispo my second home. This beautiful city is roughly in the middle of two fashion capitals, San Francisco and Los Angeles. That being said, we have a wide variety of looks in San Luis. Every day, I can count on seeing many different styles that students showcase on our campus runway.
When I was growing up, Melrose Avenue and Rodeo Drive were just a short drive away. I was exposed to the luxurious, fashionable life of the typical LA girl, which I desired to be. As a child, I had one Barbie and her closet was bigger than mine. I spent more time trying to figure out what Barbie was going to wear instead of actually playing with her. Barbie had revealed the fabulous life of fashion and I quickly fell in love.
In high school, I happily took any opportunity to expose myself to the fashion industry. For a year, I was part of the Nordstrom BP Fashion Board, which was rewarding because I learned about trends, styling and the business behind a successful fashion retailer. After this rewarding experience, I became even more fascinated with fashion; I started spending a lot of my time browsing through fashion blogs and flipping through countless fashion magazines like Nylon and W. Suddenly, fashion inspiration was everywhere; I looked towards style icons like Mischa Barton, Cara Delvigne and the Olsen twins.
I am beyond excited to write the What To Wear column weekly. I hope to inspire you on what to wear when dressing for your upcoming occasions and events this year!
