Summer means a lot of different things to different people. For some, it is a much-needed break from the college world filled with class, homework, papers and exams. For others, it is the perfect time to get away, to maybe hit a fun destination that might involve a beach and warm weather. For many college students, though, summer also means working. Yes, of course we work in order to build our resume in hopes that we will someday reach our dream job. However, we also work to save up for something. Some students are working toward a set goal. For example, my roommate is working to save for when she studies abroad. Another friend is working to pay for his college tuition. In all honesty, there’s a reason behind the running joke “broke college kids.” We spend our summer “vacation” working so we can get one step closer to our goal, whatever that goal may be. We also truly appreciate anything that does not seem completely out of reach. Affordability comes to play a crucial role in many of the decisions students make. Therefore, if stores plan to have their target be college students, affordability must be kept in the forefront of their minds. That is why The Tangerine Closet is one of my favorites. It specializes in clothes and accessories for the college girl, but lucky for us, their items won’t burn a hole in your wallet. With this boutique, it’s possible to have your money and wear it, too.
Name: Gabriella Goana
Role: Sales Associate
CollegeFashionista: What’s your favorite part about The Tangerine Closet?
Gabriella Goana: My favorite part is that it’s affordable. We also have a lot of different dresses that you haven’t seen before. We’re also getting in more maxi dresses and we plan on expanding our consignment rack.
CF: How long has The Tangerine Closet been open?
GG: We’ve been here for almost two years. She opened May 25, 2012.
CF: What is your favorite thing to shop for in the boutique?
GG: I love the dresses here. The owner, Megan, also gets a lot of jewelry. Most of the jewelry she has in the cases and on display is from Shanghai and India. They are imported, which makes them really unique.
CF: How do you all pick which items come into the store?
GG: Another woman from Cat Eye comes in to bring in a lot of the jewelry. The owner also buys a lot of the dresses and gets ones that she likes and that catch her eye.
CF: What is your favorite piece that you have gotten here?
GG: I love this white dress that we have in now. It flows and is perfect for summer because the material is not hot. I also like the red detail on the front.
