AROUND TOWN: The Grey Colt

If you are looking for a specialty store that offers a one of a kind experience and your every need from head to toe, then The Grey Colt may be what you are looking for. The Grey Colt is not far from our Kent campus here as it is located in Hudson, Ohio and I’ve found myself making several trips as it offers so many unique things. During my past couple visits to the store, I’ve noticed all the wonderful Chelsea boots, infinity scarves and cashmere sweaters (which are all very big trends this season) The Grey Colt has to offer. It’s an enjoyable stop for any Fashionista and I was fortunate enough to get some behind the scenes details from the assistant buyer, Ann Hannah.

Name: Ann Hannah

Role: Assistant buyer at The Grey Colt

CollegeFashionista: What makes The Grey Colt so unique?

Ann Hannah: It was started in 1959 and is still owned by the same family. The present owner, Katie (daughter of the original owner), tries to stay ahead of the trends at all times and buys unique pieces that are not found in department stores. The customer service is unique too as we try to learn our customers’ names and their styles. We cater from ages 10 to 12 and all the way up to Grandma Lucy. We hope to be that specialty store that people look for.

CF: What is the most popular item in the store this season?

AH: It is a little early to say for spring, but this past season would definitely have to be boots and coats! Because of the long winter. We always specialize in coats and sweaters. Sweaters are popular here year-round as we offer such a unique selection. Cashmere has been very popular this year.

CF: What is your favorite brand that The Grey Colt sells?

AH: M.&Kyoko I love, as well as ace&jig. The fabrics and textures of ace&jig are amazing. It’s an underground company out of Brooklyn.

CF: What is the best part about working at The Grey Colt?

AH: The best part is definitely working under the management of Katie. Katie, the owner, really gives us the chance to be creative. There really aren’t many restrictions for this size of a shop.

Learn More: If you’re ever in Northeast Ohio, you will definitely want to make a stop at The Grey Colt, located at 150 North Main Street, Hudson, OH 44236 or check out their website.
