Style begins with core essentials and bare minimals. The best outfits always center around a core piece such as a solid colored camisole or those perfect pair of jeans. In my opinion, one of the most underrated stores that carries essential fashion staples is Old Navy. Not only do they have items for a bargain (hello three pairs of flip-flops for under $10!), they also have a lot of similar styles to those of high-end boutiques. I caught up with sales associate Brittany Dakin to unveil aspects of this commonly underestimated store.

Role: Sales Associate, Old Navy
CollegeFashionista: Which pieces of inventory are the top sellers?
Brittany Dakin: The top sellers vary from season to season. For back-to-school, the most sold items are the children’s jeans and t-shirts. During the summer, we are constantly restocking our shorts and flip-flops; they seem to fly off the racks. During the spring and fall, loose button-downs for women and crew necks for men are especially popular. Overall, our most coveted items include jeans, knits and T-shirts.
CF: What is your favorite Old Navy outfit in your closet right now?
CF: How is Old Navy keeping up with the more high-end retail stores?
BD: Old Navy is bringing in styles that are similar to high-end designers, with a cheaper price. They excel at staying informed and up-to-date with customer desires season after season, especially for women. Overall, the clothing is comfortable, high quality and durable.
