I didn’t realize that there may be a fashion gene running through my family until I spoke with my cousin about his burgeoning clothing business. This young entrepreneur captured my attention with his graphically appealing T-shirt. Thinking he purchased it from a high end brand that he normally shops at, I was surprised to know that it was his own design. Graphic T-shirts are perfect for the summer season and can be worn with a pair of high-waisted shorts and flats. He runs this business with a few of his friends from school and it is on a steady rise to the top.
Name: Christian Farmer
Role: Design Creator and Manager of Sales
CollegeFashionista: How did you get started with the label MPR
Christian Farmer: My three other friends and I would always be in a group around school. Then everyone else would start calling their group squad so we came up with MPR to stand out from the others. From MPR, that’s where the clothing brand came in.
CF: What does MPR stand for and what does it represent?
CF: It stands for Money, Power and Respect. It mainly represents what everybody really wants in life. No matter who you are I feel like we all need money, power and respect just to get through life. Without one of those, you can’t get to where you want within life.
CF: What is one of your favorite pieces in the collection?
CF: One of my favorite pieces right now I have to say is what I’m wearing right now, which is the normal T-shirt with MPR on it. It’s in white, blue and black. It’s simple, but it also matches with most of the stuff that I have, especially with the outfit I have on now. It can be worn for different occasions like if you’re going to a party or just going out somewhere.
CF: Where do you get your style inspiration?
CF: My friends and I we always like to go all out when we’re dressing up. It doesn’t matter where we’re going we just want to look clean and nice wherever we go. So, we take a piece of all of our fashion styles and put it into the clothes. That way, all of us can have our little own piece within the brand.
CF: How would you describe the vibe of the MPR brand?
CF: I’d say it’s a little more calm than others. We don’t want to come out looking flashy or too out there. We just want to look good and garner the right kind of attention. We just want to be there at the top.
CF: What advice would you give to someone aspiring to create their own brand or label?
CF: Make sure you have a patent and license first before you start it because without that someone can easily copy your ideas.
