AROUND TOWN: MiKenna Williams

Would history really exist if there wasn’t someone to document it? Think about it… we wouldn’t have past styles to replicate and improve for the upcoming decades. Life would essentially suck! Here, I have MiKenna as she discusses her as a student and her future goals. (Side note: check out her plaid dress. This is definitely a must-have for your closet!).

Name: MiKenna Williams

Role: Journalism Student

CollegeFashionista: Tell me about yourself.

MiKenna Williams: I am Journalism major, minoring in Public Relations. I would describe myself as outspoken, friendly and determined.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

MW: The four words I would use to describe my fashion style are chic, edgy, urban and classy. I hate identifying my fashion with just one style. I can get a bit indecisive when it comes to picking out clothes.

CF: Everyone has a style icon. Who’s yours?

MW: My style icons are both twins, Mary Kate and Ashley. I love oversized clothing, and Mary-Kate and Ashley always seem to incorporate that into their looks. I love how even though their style is a bit expensive, I can always replicate their clothes with a cheaper perspective.

CF: What got you interested in fashion?

MW: After being told that fashion may be the road for me by my ex-boyfriend’s mom, I looked into it and my love for it began to ignite from there. Although journalism was a career path that always stood out to me, fashion is also something that I enjoyed being a part of. These two ideas brought me to the conclusion of continuing to pursue journalism but from a fashion perspective.

CF: What’s next after graduation?

MW: I did a 12-week internship with the Dallas Morning News, and I wrote for the Guide Live section, which was all about entertainment. I’ve interviewed Big 12 players and sat in with the editor of FDLuxe to observe her everyday job. From there, I knew I did not want to be in a newsroom but more hands-on in the actual fashion industry. I hope that interning with Dallas Morning News establishes credibility with me to where I can acquire other internships that would expose me to where I would essentially want to be. I plan on doing internships in New York or California with hopes of being led where to go after graduation, through those experiences.

CF: What would your dream career be?

MW: Basically, I want to take Giuliana Rancic’s job. My other dream would be to be editor of Vogue, but we all know that Wintour isn’t gong anywhere anytime soon!

Learn More: MiKenna hopes that her dreams will take her to New York City. To follow her journey, catch her on her personal blog or her Instagram.
