In my mind, vintage pieces are always the best and most valuable. What was old always becomes new once again, and thrift shops, moms and grandmothers are helpful players in obtaining those items! Meg Noyes of HOUSE OF NOYES incorporates vintage styles into her jewelry designs, some of which can be seen on the red carpet. From chic and dainty to oversized and eye-catching, HOUSE OF NOYES is a unique jewelry line that combines the old with the new and the bold with the trendy. Not to mention, the designer is just so fab!
Name: Meg Noyes
Role: Designer, HOUSE OF NOYES
CollegeFashionista: What inspires your jewelry designs?
Meg Noyes: I find inspiration anywhere and everywhere. Sometimes it can be in the most unexpected places, it could be a flower arrangement that has unique color combinations, vintage jewelry, architecture, graffiti, etc.
CF: What materials do you work with?
MN: With each of my pieces, I always have something that is vintage reworked. This could be an earring, brooch, necklace, chain, charm, belt buckle, fur clip and the list goes on. Other than that, the new portion is usually a masculine chain or heavy stone to balance the delicate vintage aspect.
CF: How did you get into jewelry design?
MN: I started designing my own personal jewelry (mainly beaded pieces) when I was seven. From there, I studied metalsmith work for four years in high school, it was during this time that I really fell in love with it! I went on to college and studied Architecture with a design emphasis, and from there went to GIA (Gemological Institute of America) in New York City. After that, I moved to LA and launched my line HOUSE OF NOYES!
CF: What’s your goal for the future of HOUSE OF NOYES?
MN: My designs are always evolving. Currently, I am focusing on incorporating more natural elements like amethyst, agate, sharks teeth and shells. I usually work with these elements until I am inspired by something new and fresh—then the new collection begins. I think the moment your designs stop evolving is bad news!
