AROUND TOWN: Maddie Louviere

Around Town

In the midst of celebrating my birthday month, I found interest in my zodiac sign, Gemini—the sign of the twins. It says that the Gemini are “dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory.” Now, what does this have to do with fashion? In my life, I like to mix up my looks. Nothing is the same day to day and I have no set appearance, playing on the versatility of the Gemini twins. It was only natural that I got to chatting with an incredible student designer who happens to get her inspiration from her twin sister!

Name: Maddie Louviere

Role: Student Designer

CollegeFashionista: Who inspires your designs?

Maddie Louviere: I am mainly inspired by the relationship I have with my twin sister. Somehow, we are completely different and opposite, but fit together perfectly. So all my designs are inspired by duality and contrast.

CF: How did you get into fashion and design?

ML: I’ve wanted to be in fashion as long as I can remember. My grandmother taught me how to sew when I was a kid, so that was definitely the start.

CF: What is your style?

ML: My design style is based off of contrast. The mixture of feminine and edgy; the contrast is hard and soft, dark and light.

CF: What’s one of your favorite pieces you’ve designed?

ML: My favorite piece that I have designed was a gorgeous plunge-neck sheer-skirt dress. I love it because it was the first piece I made with the technique of draping, and because it can be transformed from a romper to an evening gown with the wrap-on chiffon skirt.

CF: What do you see for the future of your designs?

ML: Hopefully in the future, I can have my own clothing line. In the near future, I hope to perfect my style and gain more experience.
