AROUND TOWN: Kelly Gooch

Ever want to know the girls behind the pageant life? Well, I got to meet and spend time with one who reins in her title right here in East Lansing. It’s about time we give some credit to the pageant life. It’s one that is very competitive and truly rewarding at the same time. While wearing some of the most stunning evening gowns, they are also pushing the world to be a better place with their platforms. I got to spend some time with Miss Capital City and see what it’s really like to be a pageant queen.

Name: Kelly Gooch

Role: Miss Capital City

CollegeFashionista: What is the one thing you can’t live without when preparing for the pageant?

Kelly Gooch: Sally Hanson Airbrush Legs. I buy it a few shades darker and put it everywhere except my face. It’s technically just for your legs, but it gives you an amazing glow and looks so nice on stage. It’s definitely a pageant girl secret!

CF: What are some other activities that you are interested in?

KG: Right now I’m working on a social media internship with a startup company in Lansing called “HerBlends of Plenty”. I also dance with the Michigan State University Dance Club and love to go to football games.

CF: What is your favorite round of Miss Michigan?

KG: Swimsuit. Most girls dread this phase, but I think it’s so fun! They play upbeat music, and you get to pretend you’re a Victoria’s Secret model for 20 seconds.

CF: What is your platform for Miss Michigan?

KG: My platform is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness. Two and a half years ago, I lost my brother to a motorcycle accident, which ignited my passion for this subject. Through my platform, I encourage drivers to share the road and be cautious of bikers when changing lanes.
