As you may know, I love shopping for things I always feel are a “need,” such as a lace dress or a pair of sparkly heels that I already have five of. After a summer of visiting all these different boutiques in my city, I have found that I view shopping differently now. It seems to me that boutiques put out products that they think a customer could “want” and not so much “need.” This gives the customer a more personal reason to purchase an item, making the shopping experience more worth it. As I entered Jigsaw Boutique, I was greeted by the strikingly dressed Chelsie Modrell. Doused in color and wearing an amazing dress with a popping cuff, she set the mood for the store. As fabulous as both of those pieces were on her, I still can’t get over the dazzling Sam Edelman heels she walked around in. I could easily see that at Jigsaw Boutique, they mean serious, fun fashion-forward business!
Name: Chelsie Modrell
Role: Manager, Jigsaw Boutique
CollegeFashionista: What is the story behind Jigsaw Boutique?
Chelsie Modrell: Susan, the owner, has ran various stores over the past 30 years, and has been in retail since she was 16. It has been a passion of hers, so when she moved here, she wanted to open a specialty boutique that carried a range of high quality clothing. After 14 years, we still are one of the original specialty boutiques in town! We try to only have a couple of everything, and always keep it changing to really make our garments special.
CF: Which products do you find yourself loving as they come into your store?
CM: Anything flashy, colorful or something with beautiful fabrics! I am most attracted to patterns and color. I get to help with the buying, so I definitely add my taste into the store!
CF: What kind of customer do you direct your products to?
CM: I would say a whole range of ages. Really, it comes down to people understanding that this is not a “needs” store, but a “wants” store, making it more special and worth it to the customer. I think that if you invest money into an item, you tend to invest more love into them.
