Designer Alexander McQueen once said: “You’ve always got to push yourself forward; you’ve always got to keep up with the trends or make your own trends.” He’s got a point. Trends are ever-changing. You either follow the trends or you don’t, and chances are if you don’t, you are creating a trend of your very own. Trends can also vary depending on where you live. For example, black will always be a staple in New York, but walk outside in an all-black ensemble in Florida and you might stand out. Other trends will start in big cities and work their way across the country. If you live in a small town, though, sometimes the newest trends are hard to come by. General Eccentric, a boutique located in Louisville, makes getting the latest trends from big cities like Los Angeles easy.
Name: Addie Mills
Role: Store Manager
CollegeFashionista: What makes General Eccentric so unique?
Addie Mills: We get a new shipment in every single week, so our clothes are always changing. We change the clothes on the mannequins in the window three times a week and we change the ones inside just as much. Everything is always changing, so we are always up with the new trends. We always have everything from clothes to accessories and purses. Anything you want to complete an outfit you can find at General Eccentric.
CF: What is your favorite part about the boutique?
AM: The location and the people that come in. You see all different walks of life here. Sometimes we have guys that come in, too, and it’s always fun to help them find something for a girlfriend, sister or someone like that.
CF: What’s your favorite season to shop for?
AM: Honestly, any season that is coming up. When it’s spring, I want summer. I also really like fall colors.
CF: What is your favorite piece that you have gotten at General Eccentric?
AM: I actually love maxi dresses and maxi skirts. They are so easy and they can be a day to night outfit. You can throw on a little denim jacket if it’s cool outside, and it’ll changes everything about the look. That or palazzo pants – those are my favorite, too.
CF: What trends do you think we will see this upcoming fall?
AM: I think we are going to see lots of blush and army green together. I think a really dark maroon is probably going to come back along with big sweaters. I think overalls might come back in style, and there’s always a new style of boot.
CF: How does the store choose the clothes that are found in the boutique?
AM: We have a vending website, and they are based out of Los Angeles. We order from them, so everything is shipped from right here in the US.
