Although the University of Florida isn’t a fashion school (to be frank, it’s not even close—there are approximately zero fashion—related major options), the amount of students who are pursuing careers in the fashion world, whether that’s in the area of public relations, journalism or advertising, is astonishing. One such student is Gabrielle Piloto, a fashion-loving junior at UF who is actively working toward a career in the fashion industry with multiple fashion internships—including one right here at CollegeFashionista! In terms of Gainesville’s most fashion-forward citizens, Gabby is right there at the top. So for this AROUND TOWN post, we’ll focus on someone who is already paving her way to be a force in the fashion world. If you’re a student at UF and think that having an internship in fashion is impossible—Gabby will certainly prove you wrong and provide ample inspiration for you to start working toward your dream fashion job now!
Name: Gabrielle Piloto
Role: Fashion Intern And Blogger
CollegeFashionista: What types of fashion internships are you involved with right now?
Gabrielle Piloto: Along with interning as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, I am so excited to be interning as a Fashion Stylist for HSN, Home Shopping Network. It is like a dream come true, because mixing television and fashion is basically me in a nutshell. What I do on a day-to-day basis always changes, as live TV is unexpected and HSN in general is a crazy fun place to work at, but most of the time I am working on specific shows that are airing that day. I help prep the clothes or jewelry that is selling and then we choose outfits that complement what we are selling in that hour. We have to make sure not only HSN is represented well, but also the vendor who’s product it is. For example, I worked on an Iman show the other day.
CF: How would you describe your blog in one sentence?
GP: My blog, starletjournals.blogspot.com, is a little beauty, a little fashion and a lot of life.
CF: What are your plans for after graduation?
GP: That’s a good question. I either would want to go into TV programming and work on research and ratings, or better yet work at HSN as either a stylist, assistant producer or in marketing. I’m all over the place.
CF: Where is your fave place to shop in Gainesville?
GP: Honestly I am mostly an online shopper, but Urban Thread in Gainesville has the coolest clothes, so if you see me chopping in the ‘ville, it will be there.
