AROUND TOWN: Ericca Branch

Photography is an art of observation; it is what brings the things around you into reality. You can’t be held accountable unless you have proof, right? This student decided to make this a part of her calling and I was happy to learn a little bit more from her, being that I am a beginner photographer myself!

Name: Ericca Branch

Role: Fashion Photographer

CollegeFashionista: I’m in love with your purse! Can you tell me where you got it from?

Ericca Branch: Thanks! It was actually a gift from my sister.

CF: Tell me about yourself and your future endeavors.

EB: My name is Ericca and I am a senior Communications major, minoring in Graphic Design. I would describe myself as outgoing, caring and creative. After I graduate, I would like to become a big shot fashion blogger and eventually go into working for a fashion publication.

CF: What got you interested in photography?

EB: I think holidays as a child got me interested into photography because my parents always took pictures of everything that was happening (people eating, laughing, posing, etc.,) so every Christmas I asked for a camera.

CF: Why fashion photography specifically?

EB: I really just enjoy the rush of being able to dress someone or to spot people who look like they’re about to step foot on the runway. Something about creating art with what we wear catches my attention and I want to be able to inspire others to learn how to go into their closets and come up with the best outfits.

CF: Who inspired you?

EB: I’ve always loved photography but I never took too many pictures just because I didn’t really know what I was doing, but I got even more interested my senior year of high school. We hosted a foreign exchange student, Linda from Austria, who had a camera and always took pictures of her outfits and self-portraits. So one day she went out of town and I borrowed her camera, dressed my sister up in the cutest outfits and took pictures! Back then it was MySpace so all of my friends thought I was a photographer. I guess I would say Linda inspired me because of her sense of style and eventually showing me how to use the camera.

CF: Do you have any advice for those who might have an interest in photography?

EB: I would say have a passion! And make sure you do research on the type of camera you have because that makes a huge difference. It’s important to also know what kind of photography you like and focus on that so you can improve. And most of all find a coach to guide you through the process and be sure to help others who are beginners. Learning with others is very important and can teach you more.

Learn More: Branch will be completing her degree this August and will be on to becoming a full time blogger. Until then, check her out via her Instagram!
