Around Town

They are many reasons why one would want to become a designer. Some see it as an art, so they want to let their fantasy go and to create masterpieces. Others might want to create an unforgettable brand, but this aspiring student designer wants to change everyone’s closets in her town. A 20-year-old designer just created her first line and she can’t wait to take over the fashion industry in Kazakhstan.

Name: Dana Dautova

Role: Student Designer

CollegeFashionista: When did you realize that you wanted to be a designer?

Dana Dautova: I think I realized it in the third grade. I loved sewing and fashion and at that time I learned that I could possibly build a career from it.

CF: Where do you get your inspiration?

DD: The first line that I created was inspired by a Lars von Trier’s movie Melancholia. I love all his movies. Everything is very dark and gloomy.

CF: How would you describe your style?

DD: I love everything black and comfortable. I think, in fashion, the most important part is that you should feel comfortable in your clothes. If you feel confident in whatever you are wearing, then other people would be able to see your confidence too.

CF: What is your favorite work so far?

DD: I love the coat I made for me little sister. It came out to be very cute and vintage looking.

Learn More: Dana has two more years to go, but keep an eye on this young designer from Astana.
