I think the easiest way for a person to enhance their outfit is by adding a generous amount of embellishments. Whether it be a few baubles, a beautifully made purse or a rocking pair of statement shoes, an ordinary outfit can easily be bumped up to a show-stopping ensemble. I think Harry Winston expressed the importance of accessories best when he said, “People will stare. Make it worth their while.” With that being said, I always keep my eyes peeled and search for stores that are full of accessories that could strengthen my future outfits. I came across the darling boutique, Chic Unlimited, which was filled with a plethora of breathtaking jewelry, purses and clothes. I met up with the owner, Alicia Rodriguez, to get the scoop on her store, and find out what makes Chic Unlimited sparkle.
Name: Alicia Rodriguez
Role: Owner of Chic Unlimited
CollegeFashionista: Where did you get the name for your store?
Alicia Rodriguez: We had a family meeting and my two girls decided it. We picked the word “chic” because it is contemporary and can apply to a woman or a young girl. Then we chose “unlimited” because I didn’t know exactly what I was going to carry, so it allowed us to have more of a variety.
CF: How do you like having Chic Unlimited inside of the Crown Point Courthouse?
AR: I like it because it’s so historical, and people come in here anxious to see what it looks like inside. When you look at it from outside, it’s just a breathtaking view and there is a lot of history and charm. It’s a unique place, even though people say it’s haunted!
CF: What are your favorite items that you carry?
AR: My absolute favorite thing is jewelry. I love it so much and it’s kind of my own passion since I also like making my own jewelry. I also really like purses, and seeing all the different colors they come in. We also have homecoming and turnabout dresses which are fun since we get to see the girls try them all on. It’s just so cool when people come in and see something they love and are like, “This is exactly what I’m looking for and I couldn’t find it anywhere else.” It’s just nice to service someone that’s looking for something special.
CF: How do you interpret fashion?
AR: I think fashion is looking in the mirror and knowing that you look good and presentable. I think you should look like you have class. You have to look like you took your time to get dressed, and not like you threw something on and ran out the door. You have to give some thought about what you’re wearing.
