AROUND TOWN: Carly Barton

St. Thomas Sophomore, Carly Barton, has the best of both worlds. This Fashionista is majoring in Fashion Merchandising and minoring in business. While the University of St. Thomas does not offer a degree in fashion merchandising, she is able to partner with our sister school and take courses at the University of St. Catherine’s. This allows her to pursue a degree in a subject that she is passionate about at St. Kate’s, while supplementing her degree with a business minor from St. Thomas. Working in the fashion industry has been a dream of hers ever since she was inspired by the pages of fashion magazines when she younger.

Name: Carly Barton

Role: Fashion Merchandising and Business Student

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?

Carly Barton: I would say it involves cool colors and simple shapes, as well as simple pieces. It is very minimalist and simplistic.

CF: Who is your biggest fashion icon/inspiration?

CB: Right now, I would say Kendall Jenner. She has a similar style to mine and likes to pick cool pieces but then dresses them up a little bit. I really like that!

CF: What trend are you looking forward to this summer?

CB: I’m really looking forward to swimwear trends, such as the high-neck and high-waisted swimsuits. I’m looking forward to buying new swimsuits.

CF: What have you enjoyed most about school?

CB: I really enjoy the classes I’m taking at St. Kate’s for fashion merchandising; those are my favorite classes in my schedule. I took a textile class in fall and now I’m taking apparel construction. They have really opened my eyes to how clothing is constructed and the materials that go into it. It is really interesting. It is definitely a good thing to have the business classes at St. Thomas as well since the fashion industry has a business aspect to it.

Learn More: Carly will be a junior next year and hopes to one day work in the textile industry. So make sure to keep her name on your fashion radar in the years to come!
