AROUND TOWN: Anthony Macias

Around Town

No matter the weather, this Fashionisto can almost always be found either rocking a chic black ensemble or mix of essentials. Anthony Macias is a Chicago native, Columbia College Chicago fashion design major and seasoned Gap employee. He prides himself in utilizing his artistic nature to construct everyday outfits. With aspirations to be the hand behind designs for major fashion houses (preferably in Paris), he travels around the city in style searching to better his own.

Name: Anthony Macias

Role: Fashion design major, Gap visual team

CF: How would you describe your aesthetic?

Anthony Macias: My style is simultaneously growing up with me. I take a little bit of inspiration from everything but I mostly pull ideas from people in the downtown area – Pilsen, Logan Square and Wicker Park.

CF: How do you dress appropriately for Chicago weather?

AM: I love to wear my Gap destroyed slim-fit jeans with a basic white T-shirt. It’s very casual and simple but most importantly it allows me to stay cool.

CF: If you only had three items of clothing in your arsenal, what would they be?

AM: My AllSaints leather jacket. I want to get buried in that, actually. A pair of black jeans, and my AllSaints boots because those three together I could wear all day, all year round – comfortably.

CollegeFashionista: What class has inspired or challenged your way of thinking when approaching design?

AM: A class called Clothing & Society. I learned a lot about fashion in culture and how it is intertwined into absolutely everything about us. I also took garment construction, which was very difficult. Now when I look at pieces, I look at them differently and think of how I can make them on my own.

Learn More: When he’s not on the Mag Mile (in these amazing sandals) or painting, Anthony looks forward to designing some of his own clothes. With a few years left of studying, keep an eye out for his creations at Columbia College Chicago!
