After attending two challenging yet rewarding years at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco, Alyssa Rogers has been working her way up through a bohemian style boutique called Free People to promote her new designs and push her fashion limits.
Name: Alyssa Rogers
Role: Fashion designer and sales associate, Free People
CollegeFashionista: What did you enjoy most about attending FIDM?
Alyssa Rogers: Meeting all of the students and being able to see their different personalities. I had very inspiring teachers who pushed me further as a designer and helped me figure out what I wanted to do with my life.
CF: What are your plans for your designs?
AR: The dream is to work my way up in Free People and hopefully one day get on their creative side of a team and be a designer for them. I feel my designs are very similar to the Free People designs.
CF: What are your favorite in-store items?
AR: What I’m wearing right now! This kimono. As well as this basic tee called the Rory Tee. You can wear it with anything—jeans, skirts or shorts. We have a lot of basic pieces that are perfect for the summer and are at a fairly affordable price.
CF: What is it about the brand Free People that you love so much?
AR: I think they have a very different style from typical brand name stores. It gives people that really love fashion a way to express themselves creatively. They have a very cool and laid-back vibe which is what I love most about the company.
CF: What are some of your favorite trends at the moment?
AR: At the moment I’m really into distressed denim. I love oversized dresses and maxi skirts because they’re perfect for the summer. During the summer you really don’t want to wear clothes that are too tight and constricting, so anything fluid and has movement is perfect right now. Which is what I’m seeing a lot in Free People.
