STYLE GURU BIO: Ariel Gordon

Style Guru Bio

Hi Fashionistas and Fashionistos, my name is Ariel Gordon, and I am a double major in Spanish and Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at the University of Michigan. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I am very excited! I will be covering men’s fashion in LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS during these upcoming months.

I am originally from Scottsdale, Arizona, and from a young age, fashion was always a part of my life. My first exposure to fashion was as a little girl shopping with my parents in the department stores, where I would hide in the racks of clothes. During these trips, I liked to help my mom pick out outfits—I would run off and then return with the brightest, softest, or most sparkly item I could find, insisting that she should buy it. Of course, my underlying motive was to keep them for myself!

I still like to incorporate these bright and bold pieces that I loved during my childhood, but I have learned to temper them with more refined styles. I would describe my style as both classic and fresh—I prefer streamlined, flattering silhouettes the majority of the time, but I also like to add some fun and trendy pieces to make my outfit more modern. I draw my inspiration from the world around me, as well as from fashion magazines and runway shows. My favorite designers are Marchesa, alice + olivia, Rebecca Taylor and Dolce&Gabbana. I really love how these three designers combine luxury and sophistication in their pieces, and I strive to express this same aesthetic in my own outfits.

I am excited to write for CollegeFashionista because I want to show that no matter the conditions, it is always easy to look good. College-age students can face many limitations, from adjusting to new weather, to sticking to a new budget, to having an increased workload, but these are no excuse to not express your style. Fashion is not about being a slave to the latest trends, nor is it about spending a lot of money on clothes. Fashion should be about having fun, expressing yourself, and about feeling confident in your own skin! I am very excited to report on the new and upcoming fashion trends at the University of Michigan, and I look forward to inspiring you all to try something new!
