ACCESSORIES REPORT: Shady Business

Accessories Report

Anyone who has ever been to Manhattan in the summer knows what an inescapably hot, reflective and steamy bubble of an island it becomes. Glistening spurts of rising heat ascend on every street corner, and the sun's rays are so relentless that pedestrians are forced into every store they pass just to gulp in some cool air (this part I don't mind so much). Although sweaty brows and frizzy locks are inevitable due to the weather, this Fashionista knows how to put up a good fight and combat the lengthy seasonal heatwave that otherwise terrorizes habitually neat and tidy dressers.

The obvious first necessity for the summer is appropriate eyewear. Sunglasses, sunnies, shades — no matter what you call them every Fashionista needs to have at least one absolutely rocking pair. From cat-eye glasses to neon rims and silver-embellished geometric shades like this Fashionista is sporting, sunnies are a great way to add unique and bold flare to an outfit without having to add layers or chunky sweat-prone jewelry.

Coming from a girl with corkscrew curls on the bottom of my hair and unruly waves on the top, I know a thing or two about what heat and humidity can do to ones 'do. This Fashionista opted to not look like a lioness and tie up her hair using a wire-lined headband. As headbands come in many shapes, colors and styles they are a great way to not only stay cool, but also look cool while doing so.

The rest of her neutral outfit allows her accessories to (literally) shine, while still boasting to the classic shape of a high-waist A-line skirt. This shape is my go-to choice with the hemline of a mini skirt in the summer, as it allows me to stay cool and breezy and looks great with crop tops, tanks and bustiers alike.

Spotted: This Fashionista chose shades with a futuristic Jetson-esque shape, while Lunettes and YSL also sent daring frames down their spring 2012 runways — clearly she learned from the pros.
